Gana Batt is the Associate Director of Protein Development and Manufacturing at Gates Biomanufacturing Facility (GBF). She brings over 15 years of experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, protein folding, formulation and stability as well as nucleic acid production.

She has established standards in upstream microbial fermentation and scale up, downstream purification of proteins and plasmid DNA via chromatography and tangential flow filtration (TFF) as well as mRNA production. Her role at GBF involves leading technology transfer from process development to large-scale manufacturing, ensuring seamless transitions and continuous improvements in production processes. Her background also includes developing and optimizing assays for protein-protein, protein-ligand, and enzyme-substrate interaction. 

In addition to her technical skills, Gana is instrumental in authoring and maintaining numerous standard operating procedures (SOPs) and batch records, which are critical for regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. She is known for her outside-the-box thinking and her ability to drive innovation within the team. A competent leader and supportive mentor, Gana has built a team focused on efficiency and productivity, promoting values for professional growth and development.

Gana earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Master’s degree in Biophysics from Lomonosov Moscow State University. She also has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
